Following an analysis of the speed and quality of mobile operators in Moscow ( TelecomDaily news of 02.07.2014 ) VIGO, together with the country’s leading online movie theaters, conducted an analysis of the quality of fixed Internet in Moscow.
The methodology is based on data obtained through the technological platform directly from the largest Russian video services. VIGO specialists “see” in real time the speed and quality of Moscow Internet providers’ subscribers watching online video.
According to the results of 20.5 million measurements from August to October, which occur automatically with every video viewer in the Moscow region (Moscow and the region), 2KOM subscribers have the best conditions in terms of speed of access to video content. Their average video viewing speed is 13.6 Mbps. Users of this company rarely stop watching online video before it is downloaded.
MGTS provider has the worst average speed indicators; its subscribers watch online video at an average speed of 7.8 Mbit/sec and interrupt video viewing more often than others.

About VIGO

VIGO works on new technologies in the field of mobile data transmission. The company’s products are based on the concept of finding solutions to existing industry challenges through cooperation between Internet services and mobile operators. In November 2013, VIGO introduced UXZoom, the first methodology for measuring mobile Internet quality based on data from video services.

Moscow. Rating of fixed operators by average speed and VDI

VIGO introduces the concept of Integral Video Delivery Indicator for the first time. The advantage of VDI is its ability to take into account both the traditional technological parameter – the average speed, and the user characteristics of video quality – the share of views, interrupted by the subscribers themselves at the time of buffering (video drops).
VDI (Video Delivery Indicator) is equal to the ratio of the average speed to the average share of video drops. Video Drops characterizes the extreme degree of dissatisfaction of a subscriber with the quality of video viewing.
According to the results of 20.5 million measurements conducted from August to October this year in Moscow, the best conditions in terms of quality of delivery of online video in PDN have subscribers of operators 2COM, Smile, Iskratelecom, GorCom, Vimpelcom and Megafon. Their subscribers have the highest average speed*, are the least likely to stop watching online video before it is downloaded and the least likely to wait while watching it.
* – excluded services with speed limits

Moscow. Waiting time for viewing

Below are the statistics for the time lag during playback*, which does not take into account the time of the first buffering, buffering after rewinding and bitrate change if they are less than 10 seconds.
Subscribers have to wait least of all for online video downloads on Gorkom’s network, and the longest on MGTS.
