Businesses want box solutions for everything. Does anyone care about the Yarovaya Law?

by admin

We conducted a survey of our users on the topic "Do you need a boxed version of your project management system? For us, the exact answer to this question is very important. It determines the development path of the system and priorities for new features.
Businesses want box solutions for everything. Does anyone care about the Yarovaya Law?
The survey involved 155 companies using the cloud version or just those who registered to get acquainted with the system. There were only three questions, each with three answer choices.
Below are the graphs with the results and our conclusions.

Sampling

The sample is not very large (155 respondents), users don’t really like to receive letters, much less vote for anything. The only motivation to participate was the promise to publish the results.
The number of interviewees for each question is 50 times the number of answer choices. The random error of the distribution over the answers will not be large –
a few percent and depends on the answer distribution.
Significant inaccuracies in the experiment include sampling probability – only those who wanted to vote, not random users from the general sample. And, of course, the sample itself — our base is skewed toward small businesses.
All of these factors are worth considering and conclusions can be drawn from the survey results.
Question #1

Do I need a boxed project management solution or will a cloud-based one work too?

Businesses want box solutions for everything. Does anyone care about the Yarovaya Law?
32% of respondents are ready to work only with box solutions as a matter of principle to communicate and work with tasks. Considering that there is a skew among our respondents towards small businesses, 32% is the minimum market share not considering SaaS at all.
That wasn’t the situation a few years ago. We were working on another b2b project at the time, but requests for a box were sporadic, they just weren’t considered seriously. Now, by releasing a boxed version, we have closed the most popular commercial request.
Question #2

What is the main reason for needing a boxed solution?

Businesses want box solutions for everything. Does anyone care about the Yarovaya Law?
Severe skew in security and self-storage of data – Over 60%. And that’s for small businesses! When dealing directly with large companies, there security and a boxed solution is always the first or second question. (competes with the question : "How to get a report on what the team was doing")
Question #3

Have boxed solutions become more relevant in the last 3 years? Does the Yarovaya Law have any effect?

Businesses want box solutions for everything. Does anyone care about the Yarovaya Law?
No one really cares about Yarovaya by itself. There is no one particular thing that puts security so high. It is always a combination of many factors, and users do not really track changes in these factors. A typical dialog we have with a customer is like this :
– We need a boxed solution.
– Why a boxed solution? Let’s start with a cloud solution, it’s faster to get up and running.
– No, now management will only agree if it is installed on our servers
– What has changed as long as you are using free cloud Trello?
– Yeah and we’re not happy with that either. Not much has changed, but now it’s our policy to only go with secure solutions.

Conclusions from the survey and communication with companies :

  • At least 30% of companies are willing to work only with boxes.
  • In monetary terms, this is at least 70% of the market in our case. The estimate is taken from considerations of employee distribution by company size.
  • There has been a dramatic change in security preferences over the past few years. This trend will only increase. Distribution patterns will be similar to the installation of bunkers.
  • There is a trend of actively moving from clouds to self-hosted. We can only observe this in b2b. We’re being asked for features to pour workloads from cloud systems into our box.
  • The boxed version we didn’t release it for nothing. The direction should be developed. The cloud is perceived by many people simply as an opportunity to test.
