Former Nizhny Tagil Mayor Nikolai Didenko has been charged with negligence, Interfax news agency reported on March 3.
The indictment was filed as part of a criminal case of violations in the allocation of budgetary funds for the creation of the Nizhny Tagil website. According to the investigation, the city authorities did not analyze the costs of creating the site before announcing a tender for the work. The administration decided that the maximum amount of the contract could be 6.2 million rubles. Tandem LLC responded to the announcement and requested 5, 580, 000 rubles for the creation of the site. The city authorities agreed to that price and signed the relevant acts.
The law enforcement agencies believe that Nizhny Tagil’s administration mismanaged the budget in this way. According to the Kommersant newspaper, experts estimate the work done by Tandem to create and maintain the site at 200, 000 rubles. Incidentally, the newspaper learned that this company still maintains the city’s website.
In addition to the site creation case, a case was opened against Nikolai Didenko over the sale of municipal property in 2006. According to Interfax, investigators assume that the proceeds from the transaction were not sent to the budget. As part of this case, Didenko may later be charged with abuse of office.
Both criminal cases were filed against the former mayor of Nizhny Tagil in 2008 after a prosecutor’s inspection. Shortly after this check began, Didenko was expelled from United Russia.
According to Kommersant, Didenko resigned as mayor in the fall of 2008. His term of office expired and he refused to participate in a new election campaign.
