Gmail app updated on Android Market

by admin

We just released a new version of the Gmail app on the Android Market, and now Gmail updates are no longer tied to new Android version releases ( to avoid accusations of contradiction, let me clarify – "not tied" to releases new version of Android, not new version of Android. That is, the app still requires Froyo to work. ).Now you can get the new Gmail faster without having to wait for system updates. To start with, we’ve improved email replies, access to quoted text and much more.
The most important actions with an email will now always be available at the top of the screen when you swipe through the email, all in one click, no matter how long the email is.

Can’t remember what the most recent letter in the chain responds to? You can now view the content of the previous letter ( meaning the quoted text of the previous letter in the current letter. ) is much easier, just like in the desktop version of Gmail. Tap "Show quoted text" to see the content of the previous message.

Finally, this updated version of the Gmail app has limited support for Priority Inbox ( I already did translation about it ). If you have already enabled Priority Inbox through the desktop version of Gmail, you will see a shortcut ( label. ) "Important" which contains all messages marked as "Important". You can even add a label ( shortcut. ) "Important" to your home screen.

This Gmail update requires Froyo (Android version 2.2), so this app is available for Nexus One, HTC EVO, Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid ( The comments note that the app also works on the HTC Desire and even the G1 with CM6 firmware. ). (Not sure if your device is running Android version 2.2? Click here ).
Update the app via Android Market (just scan the QR code below or click here if you’re on your phone) to check out the new Gmail. We’d love to hear what you think, email android-apps-support@google.com.

Update 9/21/10 12:26pm PDT: There’s a known issue where the headers don’t lock correctly at the top of the screen on HTC phones like the EVO 4G and Droid Incredible. We are working on this.
