S.T.A.L.K.E.R. got an heir

by admin

Last December news that the Ukrainian company GSC Game World, widely known for its series of post-apocalyptic shooters S.T.A.L.K.E.R., was closing for a not entirely clear reason, raised a number of questions about the fate of its most successful project. From time to time there was news that the company is actually on the verge of closure, are in talks with publishers, then suddenly it turned out that everything is fine and the project will continue in collaboration with another publisher, but it is not clear what and when.
There is clarity on this issue.
Former employees of GSC Game World created the company Vostok Games in Kiev in March 2012. At website of the project says the following :

Ten years earlier, within the walls of GSC Game World, we began developing the famous "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." game series and continued to work on it until the studio was unexpectedly closed in December 2011, and the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2" project was frozen. We reached no agreement with the rights owner on the terms of using the Stalker brand, so we decided to move forward as an independent studio with a new project. That day was the starting point for Vostok Games.

And, in fact, today the company has announced its new Survarium project, which is described by the developers as "an evolution of S.T.A.L.K.E.R." idea:

Survarium is a free2play MMO first-person shooter, set in the near future. The game focuses on a mass- scale ecological catastrophe on Earth, the reasons behind it are unknown.
Impassable forest from all sides advances on cities, maddened animals and birds attack industrial complexes, military facilities, warehouses and power plants. Cities are cut off from each other, there is no water, no electricity, no gas, and no communication. States disintegrate, anarchy engulfs the world. Power now decides who survives. Meanwhile, new species of plants and animals are purposefully destroying human civilization. Strange plants and fungi sprout through concrete and iron. Scientists around the world try unsuccessfully to cope with the anomaly, which is spreading across the Earth at a terrifying rate.

Survarium is scheduled for release at the end of 2013 on PC – a separate project has already been set up for website which does not shine with content yet. It remains to hope that the infamous story with the "long construction" of the most famous part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. "Shadows of Chernobyl" will not be repeated.
