Signing up for OnLive

by admin

After reading this one post about OnLive I got interested in this project. Went to walk around their site. And of course I couldn’t pass by the announcement, offering those who registered now, get a yearly subscription for free.Followed the link. Although one of the conditions of the agreement said that only users from the U.S. and its environs could register, I decided to try it, maybe they considered Russia as their environs…
"To be eligible for this offer, you must be 18 years of age or older and located within the contiguous United States, provide a valid VISA, MasterCard or Discover card (your credit card will not be charged to take advantage of the free offer) and pass a computer and Internet connection performance test."
I entered my information (well, except for the ISP and zip code) and sent the application, not hoping for any development.
Great was my surprise when at half past three this morning, I received an email from OnLive, informing me that I had been selected from the waiting list! The email encouraged me to continue registering, which I immediately did.
After validating all the data I had entered (the US address, of course, was a fake one. The rest of the data was real). The system reported that I was registered. Next I had to download the client. I downloaded it. The weight of the client is only 544 KB.
After installation I was asked to enter my data:

After entering my email and password, I got this result :

In our region, you see, this service is not available…
Anyway, it’s not a big loss. I did get an annual registration. Maybe, during the year I’ll manage to get to America, or developers will open servers for Russia too…
Anyway, while registration is still up, I suggest you get on the waiting list. Maybe you will get lucky 😉
PS An idea occurred to me while writing this post: maybe it is possible to use it as a proxy… What do you think?
PSS My goal is not to screw someone or hack into something, just since they gave me access to the service, I want to test it …
