WebResearch vs. Mozilla Firefox

by admin

I’ve been using mcropool’s Web Research (formerly called ContantSever) information cataloging software for a very long time. It would be OK, but my browser started to hang up some time ago…

At first I put up with it (for probably six months). But then I got so sick of it that I decided to find the problem by all means. After reading a lot of forums describing the process of finding a glitchy plugin for FF, I have not come to anything special. All advice boils down to the fact that you need to disable one plugin at a time and see if the glitches disappear. I did the math: I have about 20 plugins, so it would take at most 4 reloads. The idea was this – turn off half of the add-ons and wait for the glitch. Wait, turn off the remaining half, and so on. But for some reason, after a few days of this tactic, it did not lead to the expected result, and surfing only strained me with the absence of half of the plugins. You quickly get used to a good thing). Thought – look for the problem with a super utility from sysinternals – . Thought about it – done). I noticed that the hang happens at the moment of entering text into some form. So, that’s better. Now I need to figure out how to deliberately cause a hang. This I was not able to do for a long time… But with time I noticed that the freeze occurs at the moment of entering only the Russian text. The rest – a matter of technology, or rather, scientific poke). What did I do? Simple. I hung up FF, opened it in ProcessExplorer process firefox.exe and started killing all the threads of the same name in it, in groups.

Of course I’m sure)). And at one point the browser came to life! Next – just by looking at the killed thread, I quickly figured out what was causing the fox to hang. It’s the WRThread module.

That’s it, Mikhalych!(c)
However, who would have thought… I wrote to WR support. They answered that they had thousands of Russian users, but had never encountered such a problem… Checked several versions of the origin – in vain. I wrote about my discovery on one of the forums discussing the program (WR) and found like-minded people). Even thanked them for their ingenuity. After that, a new version of both FF and WR has already appeared, but the hangs remained. Now at least I know how to fix it. I hope this will help someone!
